Installing the add-on

Installing the add-on

Installing is one step. There is nothing to configure at install time.

Install from the Marketplace

  1. Open the Google Workspace Marketplace listing for Asset Sync for Google Sheets, or find it from inside a sheet under Extensions → Add-ons → Get add-ons.
  2. Select Install and confirm the Google account you want it on.
  3. Review the permissions it asks for and approve them.

That is it. Open any spreadsheet and you will find it under Extensions → Asset Sync for Google Sheets → Open. The single menu item is Open because everything else happens in the sidebar.

What the permissions are for

The add-on asks for a small set of permissions. In plain terms:

  • It works in the spreadsheet you open it in, so it can show the sidebar and bring the written tab to the front.
  • It talks to its own service over the network, which is how your report definitions are saved and run.
  • It knows which Google account you are signed in as, so your reports are yours and nobody else's.

Access to your Assets data is a separate, deliberate step: nothing can read from Atlassian until you connect that account yourself, which is the next page. The Atlassian connection is read-only, and nothing the add-on does can change your data in Assets.

Nothing happens yet, and that is on purpose

After installing, your spreadsheet looks exactly as it did before. The add-on stays out of the way until you open the sidebar from the Extensions menu, and it writes nothing until you have built a report and told it to run.

Where to next

Open the sidebar and link your accounts: Connect your accounts.
